- Corin Barsily Goodwin, Executive Director
- Corin Barsily Goodwin founded GHF in 2004 to address a growing need for support and advocacy. Prior to that, she served as the Gifted/Special Needs Advisor for the HomeSchool Association of California and co-chaired their Legislative Committee. She has been presenting workshops on giftedness, learning differences and homeschool related issues for many years. Her articles have been seen in NAGC (US) Parenting for High Potential, 2e Newsletter, California Association for the Gifted's Gifted Ed Communicator, the NAGC (UK) magazine, California HomeSchooler, SENG Update, Thinking Person's Guide to Autism, and many other publications. Ms. Goodwin also serves on the SENG Editorial Board and the Advisory Board of the Asynchronous Scholars' Fund, and is excited about her newly released book, Making the Choice: When Typical School Doesn't Work for Your Atypical Child," with co-author Mika Gustavson. - Debbie Schwarzer, General Counsel
- Debbie Schwarzer lives in the Bay Area with her husband and two gifted boys, who have homeschooled from the beginning. She has been very active with the HomeSchool Association of California (HSC), previously serving on its Board and currently as its Legal Chair and head of the Legislative Committee. Ms. Schwarzer worked extensively on the In Re Rachel L case, which was the 2008 case decided by the appellate court in Southern California relating to homeschooling. She played a major role in coordinating the efforts of state-wide and national homeschool groups and the law firms that were donating their time pro bono, including Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati, where she had previously been a partner. She participated in the production of the brief on legal issues relating to homeschooling in California that the court found persuasive and took a significant role in writing another amicus curiae brief submitted for the rehearing of that case, this one focusing on the efficacy of homeschooling and of its benefits for particular populations of children. - Brandy Taylor, Business Director
- Brandy Taylor homeschools her three gifted children in Mountain Grove, MO. Prior to having children, Ms. Taylor spent seven years with the Wilmington Savings Fund Society. She has extensive experience managing fundraisers for non-profit organizations such as Cupertino Co-Op Nursery School and the regional Girl Scouts of the USA.
- Anne Beneventi, Professional Outreach Coordinator
- Anne Beneventi has had a passion for working with gifted children throughout her career. She taught for over 20 years and, during that time, co-founded Kaumeya International School in Alexandria, Egypt and Roeper West School for the Gifted in Berkeley, CA. In 1989, she began working with Annemarie Roeper, evaluating children for giftedness using the Annemarie Roeper Method of Qualitative Assessment (QA). In 2010, she was officially named Annemarie Roeper’s successor and the Director of the Annemarie Roeper Method of Qualitative Assessment and QA training program. Anne also serves as the Director of Admissions and Learning at Helios New School for the Gifted, Professional Outreach Coordinator for Gifted Homeschoolers Forum, Community Advisor for the Summit Summer Camp for the Gifted and Chair-Elect for the Global Awareness Network of the National Association for Gifted Children. Additionally, she is an Associate of the Gifted Development Center and is certified as a Parent Group Facilitator for SENG. In 2002, Anne founded Children Evolving, a private consultation service where she continues to support families, teachers and professionals of gifted children.
- Eleen Kamas, Ph.D, Recording Secretary
- Eleen Kamas enjoys homeschooling her three school-aged children while the younger two come along for the ride. In a previous life, she worked in libraries, earned a doctorate in psychology and taught at the college level. She has done research on memory and cognition, including a look at what trick questions can tell us about how we recall information.
- Josh Shaine
- Josh Shaine is a migrant teacher, whose 30+ years in education include teaching and directing various programs for the MIT Educational Studies Program, serving as headmaster at an alternative school for 7th - 12th grade gifted disgruntled students, and working for public schools as a math teacher (6th grade & gifted pull out), play director, and home tutor. More recently, Josh has been teaching classes for the Voyagers Homeschool Cooperative & Resource Center, on whose board of directors he sits.
In his copious spare time, he runs the Beyond IQ conference series for/about HG/PG children and their families, takes classes toward his masters in counseling, and slowly researches/writes about giftedness, underachievement, and non-linear thinking styles.
- Christopher Leventis Cox
- Christopher Leventis Cox accumulates, synthesizes, and disseminates information with the wish that it becomes actionable knowledge. Along this trek, he has gained three master degrees, worked in venture capital and money management, taught middle school science and history, and opened a charter school with Mandarin as its target language. Intellectual challenges aside, he has become a nationally ranked cyclist and internationally ranked indoor rower that enjoys noncompetitive sailing with his family.
